Kyrgyz athlete Beknazar Raimkul uulu won the gold medal at the World Sambo Championship in Russia.
The 41st World Championship started on November 10 in Sochi, Russia. On the first day of competition, 9 sets of medals were contested in combat and sports sambo among men and women. Nine athletes from Kyrgyzstan took to the mat.
Raimkul uulu competed in the combat sambo events in the weight category up to 74 kg, starting from the 1/8 finals, where he managed to defeat Begenchmurat Kakabaev from Turkmenistan.
In the quarterfinal match, the athlete from Kyrgyzstan defeated Uzbek wrestler Istam Kudratov and advanced to the semifinals.
After winning the semifinal bout, Raimbek uulu reached the final, where he faced Russian Beyzet Khatkhohu.
In a hard-fought battle, Raimkul uulu clinched victory with a score of 7:4 and became the world champion of 2017.
In the weight category up to 54 kg, Amanat Altynbek uulu competed, securing 3rd place and winning a bronze medal.
Another representative from Kyrgyzstan, Edilbek Shakirmanatov (up to 82 kg), lost in the bronze match to Ukrainian Maksim Ryndovsky.
It is worth noting that the World Championship is taking place at the "Iceberg" Palace from November 9 to 13. More than 500 athletes from 90 countries are participating in the championship.
Earlier, it was reported that Kyrgyzstan is represented by 18 athletes.
