Japan plans to introduce a tourist tax
It is expected to generate about $350 million annually. Starting from the 2019 fiscal year, a tax of 1,000 yen (approximately $9) will be charged to each tourist leaving the country.
It is noted that the tax will apply not only to foreigners but also to Japanese citizens.
It is planned that the fee will be included in the price of airline tickets or other forms of transportation. The Japanese government is counting on this source of revenue due to the increasing dynamics of the tourism sector associated with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
