
Kyrgyzstani Chynarbek Izabekov won bronze at the World Championship in freestyle wrestling among veterans, which is taking place in the capital of Macedonia - the city of Skopje.
According to the official website of the competition, Chynarbek Izabekov competed in the weight category up to 100 kilograms among wrestlers aged up to 50 years and had four matches. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Bulgarian athlete Stefan Ivanov Georgiev with a score of 2:1. In the semifinals, he faced Russian Vitaly Perfilev, to whom he lost with a score of 2:3. However, in the battle for third place, the Kyrgyzstani was stronger than South African wrestler Peter Frederick Du Preez, winning with a score of 4:0.
Chynarbek Izabekov is participating in the World Championships in freestyle wrestling among veterans for the fourth time. Previously, he has won tournaments of this level twice.
The first gold medal was won by the Kyrgyzstani in 2015 at the World Championship in Greece, where he competed in the weight category up to 85 kg among athletes aged 40 to 45 years. The following year, he also took first place, competing in the weight category up to 97 kg among athletes aged 46 to 50 years.
It is worth noting that earlier at the same championship among veterans taking place in Macedonia, the bronze medal for Kyrgyzstan was brought by former Minister of Internal Affairs of the KR Melis Turganbaev.
