Jalal-Abad Historical and Local Lore Museum

The Jalal-Abad Historical and Local Lore Museum is located in the administrative center of the eponymous region of Kyrgyzstan. Jalal-Abad is the third largest city in Kyrgyzstan, with a history spanning several centuries. The museum's exhibits are unique testimonies to the city's history. The first human settlement here emerged as early as the 2nd millennium BC.

The name of the city translates to "City of Jalal" and, according to unconfirmed data, is associated with a real historical figure, a certain Jalal al-Din, who was extraordinarily righteous and built caravanserais in these areas for merchants and pilgrims visiting holy sites.

The museum features exhibits on the culture and lifestyle not only of the Kyrgyz people, as during the Middle Ages, due to its proximity to one of the branches of the Great Silk Road to China, merchants from China, Persia, and Kazakhstan frequently visited here. It showcases products from numerous former craft workshops and has an exhibition that tells about the development of local crafts.

Additionally, the museum contains photos and video materials about two natives of Jalal-Abad who were included in the first group of space conquerors. These were two friends who lived on neighboring streets: pilots Mars Zakirovich Rafikov and Valentin Stepanovich Varlamov.
