Kyrgyzstan is a country of mountains. More than 90% of Kyrgyzstan's territory is occupied by mountains, which undoubtedly influences the development of ski tourism and sports in Kyrgyzstan. A large number of ski resorts have been built and are successfully developing.
The skiing season in Kyrgyzstan starts in November and lasts until early April, with the best time for skiing being February and March. However, skiing in Kyrgyzstan is also possible in summer, for example, on glaciers or high in the mountains.
For freeride enthusiasts, there is the option of being dropped off on slopes by helicopter or car. Ascents to mountain peaks and glaciers and descents from them are also possible.
Staying in Kyrgyzstan is a great opportunity to ski or snowboard. The ski resorts in Kyrgyzstan are very diverse. There are places for both professionals and beginners to ski. Karakol Ski Base
The modern Karakol Ski Base is located in the Kyrgyz Republic, on the slopes of the Tien Shan mountains, 7 km from the city of Karakol, at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level. This ski resort is unique in its natural conditions. In winter, it is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders, while in summer, it offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the coolness of mountain air and the scents of a coniferous forest full of mushrooms.
Kashka-Suu Ski Base
The Kashka-Suu Ski Base is located on the northern slopes of the Kyrgyz Range, 35 km from Bishkek, in a picturesque gorge. The "Kashka-Suu" tourist center organizes the reception of tourists and vacationers year-round, providing services for skiing and sports, ice skating, holding competitions, conferences, seminars, and various concert programs.
Ski-Tatyr Ski Base
The new Ski-Tatyr ski base is located in the village of Tatyr, near the Strel'nikova cable car, with equipment rentals and instructors. A warm welcome and colorful memories are guaranteed!
Orlovka Ski Base
The "Orlovka" ski base is located 90 km from Bishkek and is the only base equipped with snow cannons. Therefore, if the air temperature is below zero, there is always snow. Nine trails of varying difficulty and length will please both professional skiers and amateurs. The base has three ski lifts, two of which are chairlifts.
Ak-Tash Ski Base
The Ak-Tash ski base is located in the picturesque "Oruu-Sai" gorge, 30 km from Bishkek, at an altitude of 2100 m above sea level. It is situated in a beautiful gorge with many spring sources, stunning waterfalls, mountain rivers, and juniper forests.
Too-Ashuu Ski Base
The "Too-Ashuu" ski base is located in the Susamyr Valley, beyond the Too-Ashuu pass, 135 km from Bishkek. Here you will find the longest ski trails in Kyrgyzstan, ranging from 3000 m to 4300 m. Many slopes will leave freeride enthusiasts delighted.
Oruu-Sai Ski Base
The "Oruu-Sai" ski base is located in the eponymous area, 35 km from Bishkek, at an altitude of 2100 m above sea level. The slopes of the area allow you to choose a trail depending on the skill level of tourists: from beginners to extreme sports enthusiasts, i.e., the slopes are designed for skiers of all levels. Currently, there are three ski lifts of varying lengths (800, 850, and 1000 meters) and difficulty in the Oruu-Sai area.
ZIL (Suulu-Tor) Ski Base
The "ZIL" ski base is located 35 km from the capital of Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek, at an altitude of 1810 m above sea level. It is developing well and is considered a "winter Mecca" for Kyrgyz citizens and visiting guests. The base has four ski lifts and three cafes. There are seven parking lots for 500-600 cars.
Politeh Ski Base
The "Politeh" ski base is located in the Kashka-Suu area, 27 kilometers from Bishkek, at an altitude of 1640 m above sea level. The ski base has three ski lifts: two button lifts and one stationary "swab" type. For winter recreation enthusiasts, "Politeh" offers three trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels.
Toguz Bulak Ski Base
Toguz-Bulak is one of the prestigious ski resorts in the Chui region, located in the Issyk-Ata district. The resort is situated in the village of the same name, 44 km from Bishkek, at an altitude of 2300 m. Toguz-Bulak began functioning as a ski base back in 1978, but after several years of operation, it was unjustly forgotten. However, in 2003, after a major reconstruction, Toguz-Bulak became famous among winter recreation enthusiasts in just a couple of ski seasons, all thanks to its well-maintained trails and European-level service. By 2005, a new chairlift was installed and put into operation. Since then, the base has become "the talk of the town," as it is the only place in Kyrgyzstan with this type of lift. The length of the lift is 2000 meters, with a height difference of 400 meters.
Chunkurchak Ski Base
The Chunkurchak ski base is a young but rapidly developing ski complex located 30 kilometers from Bishkek, in the picturesque Chunkurchak gorge. It is an excellent place for individual, family, and corporate recreation, as well as for organizing and conducting sports and entertainment events of various levels.
Norus Ski Base
The "Norus" ski resort is located at an altitude of 1750 meters, 36 kilometers from the capital of Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek. It has two ski lifts – 600 m and 1,600 m (the latter with a new engine and double the number of chairs) – for professionals who ski confidently and snowboarders. A new 650-meter ski lift has been opened specifically for beginners.
Kolgoakar Ski Base
The Kolgoakar base is located 30-40 km from Bishkek. The base offers a wonderful view of the Chui Valley and Bishkek. Kolgoakar is located about 500 m before reaching the Ak-Tash hotel, between the Kashka-Suu and Oruu-Sai bases. There are no hotels on-site, only staff cabins. The ski lift is a button lift. The slope is covered with small fir trees, and there is usually plenty of snow. The base is equipped with two button lifts of varying lengths: 450 meters and 250 meters.
Kyzyl-Beles Ski Base
The "Kyzyl-Beles" base is located above the tourist center "Oruu-Sai," approximately 38 km from Bishkek and at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level. The Kyzyl-Beles base starts the ski season earlier than all others and ends later than all others. It is possible to ski at the end of March and even in early April. The ski lift is of the "stationary suspension" type. After each snowfall, the road from the Oruu-Sai and Kashka-Suu junction is cleared by a bulldozer. The trails are short, about 800 m long. The base is equipped with one lift, 900 meters long.
Uzun-Bulak Ski Base
The "Uzun-Bulak" ski base is located 35 km from Bishkek at an altitude of 1700 m above sea level. The trails vary in difficulty. The length of the trails, depending on the difficulty, ranges from 1000 m to 2200 m. The base is equipped with three button lifts of different lengths: the first is 150 m, and the second and third lifts are 950 m and 1100 m, respectively. There are several slopes for sledding. Ski, snowboard, and sled rentals are available.
Suusamyr Ski Base
One of the most remote bases from Bishkek is the Suusamyr ski base, located 158 km along the Bishkek-Osh highway. The base is situated in one of the most picturesque valleys in Kyrgyzstan – Suusamyr, at an altitude of 2260 meters above sea level. The season at the Suusamyr ski base starts in November and lasts until March. This tourist base, the only one in all of Central Asia, offers thrill-seekers freeride on untouched snow with the help of a snowcat with a passenger cabin. The cabin can accommodate 10 people. With the snowcat, you will feel the freedom of flying over untouched snow, which could previously only be experienced while flying in a helicopter.
