Urban passenger transport (UPT) meets the daily transportation needs of the population of Bishkek. UPT is a sector of mixed economy consisting of private and municipal public transport enterprises.
Passenger transportation in Bishkek is provided by:
- Municipal passenger enterprise - Bishkek Trolleybus Administration (BTA).
Every day, 80 trolleybuses (of which 21 are new, energy-saving, low-floor units manufactured in Belarus) operate on 7 routes (No. 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 17) with a total planned output of 87 units.
- Municipal passenger enterprise - Bishkek Passenger Automobile Transport Enterprise (BPATE).
On average, 250-260 medium-capacity buses (planned output - 396) operate daily on 20 routes (No. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 18, 19, 21, 22, 28, 29, 33, 35, 37, 38, 39, 42, 46).
Additionally, between 2150 to 2350 minivans from 41 commercial (private) firms operate daily on 122 minivan routes.
Minivans serve the residents of the capital, including remote new buildings, residential areas, and sectors of the capital where, due to road conditions, the operation of buses and trolleybuses is not possible.
Currently, out of the existing 48 residential areas, public transport services 38 residential areas, meaning those areas where road conditions allow for the movement of minivans and buses. Where conditions do not allow, residents of those areas use nearby passing routes.
Prospects: According to the analysis of the state of the passenger transport sector (experts from the World Bank, EBRD, etc.), the city needs to acquire an additional 150 trolleybuses, 500 large-capacity buses, or 700 medium-capacity buses in 2-3 phases to restore all trolleybus and bus urban routes and free up minivans.
It should be noted:
1. The schedule for the movement of buses, trolleybuses, and the work schedule of taxi drivers is the basis for organizing the work of passenger transport and is mandatory for all participants in the transportation process.
2. Changes to the movement schedule and work schedules may be made in response to changes in passenger flows, road conditions of the route, and the length of the route.
The City Transport Administration of Bishkek informs the residents of the capital about the final stops of minivan routes.
