Preparation for hunting in Kyrgyzstan

Preparation for hunting in Kyrgyzstan is a topic that deserves special attention. The thing is that many hunters approach preparation very lightly, comparing hunting in the mountains with hunting on plains or in forests, but this is not the case. This article is intended to answer questions about preparation for high-altitude hunting in Kyrgyzstan.

General Physical Preparation

There is no need for special training to hunt in Kyrgyzstan, but it is important to know some things. Most likely, you will be hunting at an altitude of over 3000 meters, which means that the air here contains significantly less oxygen, and your body will need to acclimatize to this condition. This process is called acclimatization, and it is necessary for all hunters arriving for a hunt in Kyrgyzstan. Usually, this is the first day in the hunting grounds, on this day you will be zeroing your weapon, getting acquainted with the horses, and meeting the guides who will take you hunting. On this day, you should try to make fewer sudden movements, runs, or sharp bends (you may get a nosebleed). It is sufficient to take short walks of 500-800 meters around the camp. After lunch, you should ascend a small slope 100-300 meters above the camp level.

It is impossible to prepare in advance for the acclimatization process; it is an inevitable process, and you should be ready to spend at least one day on it.

During the acclimatization process, you may experience a deterioration in your overall condition, headaches, pressure in the temples, and shortness of breath. Generally, shortness of breath after a small hike is a normal phenomenon, and you should be prepared for it.

Usually, the acclimatization process in Kyrgyzstan is easier for those who lead an active lifestyle, visit high altitudes, run in the mornings or evenings, swim, or play tennis. If you do something regularly for a month before visiting Kyrgyzstan, it will significantly ease your hunting experience.

The thing is that if you need to dismount from your horse and walk a short distance of 100-300 meters in warm clothing with full hunting gear, you will inevitably experience shortness of breath, and it will be useless to shoot until you catch your breath.

Typically, with average physical preparation, it takes at least 1-2 minutes to recover, and with poor preparation, it can take up to 5-7 minutes. Therefore, it is important to reduce this time, as it significantly increases your chances of a successful shot. If you cannot aim well, it is worth waiting longer; during this time, the animal may notice you and start to leave, which is always disappointing.
