Radio and Television
The city of Osh was radio-equipped in 1931. By 1936, the length of the city’s radio broadcasting network was about 10 km. Four transmission lines were built towards the new city. The total number of radio points was 1500. The first radio broadcast prepared by the "Osh" radio station aired on January 20, 1968. Until 1969, the Osh city radio hub operated on one program, later expanding to three programs. In 1984, the number of radio points reached 21,895. The average daily volume of radio broadcasts was 60 minutes, including 0.9 hours in Kyrgyz, 0.1 hours in Uzbek, 7 hours of broadcasts from Moscow, and 10 hours from Frunze.
The famous poet Jolon Mamytov, the editor of the first broadcast, and nurse, announcer Raab Kyrgyzbaeva excitedly pronounced "Oштон суйлойбуз" — "this is Osh speaking." Initially, there were a few employees, but now 70 people work in the regional television and radio committee. Party and Soviet workers, cultural workers, agricultural workers, and others appeared on the radio.
The television studio in the city of Osh was established on August 16, 1969. On this day, the first broadcast of Osh television aired. Programs were broadcast three times a week. The first announcers were Anash Kadyrova and U. Mamytov. Shows such as "Кытыгы" ("A Pinch"), "Кырчын" ("Youth"), and "Народное творчество" ("Folk Art") have long been loved by viewers. At the end of 1977, the first broadcast of the literary and musical almanac "Ыр-кесе" ("Song Bowl") took place, which became an example and tradition; the evening of "Ыр-кесе" was held in all districts of the republic.
Radio and television in the sections "Native Land and Its People," "City and Osh Residents," "Journeys to the Addresses of Leaders" told and showed stories about the workers of the city and region. Meetings were organized with Heroes of Socialist Labor X. Anarov, S. Yusupova, A. Toygonbaev, T. Sanjarov, as well as with other production leaders and city and regional officials. Currently, the television and radio company is headed by A. Abdrayev. In 1997, the President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan A. Akayev visited the Osh regional television and radio company.
He brought with him new Japanese editing equipment, a video camera, a computer, and video cassettes.
Addressing the employees of the television company, the President reminded them that the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the epic "Manas" was watched by residents of 70 countries around the world thanks to CNN, and the 3000th anniversary of the city of Osh - one of the oldest cities on earth - should be seen by everyone.
