Uzbek Musical and Dramatic Theater


The city has notable achievements in the field of theatrical art. The Uzbek Musical and Dramatic Theater was established in 1929 based on a troupe of an amateur dramatic collective. In 1934, the theater toured Tashkent and Leningrad, where more than 70 actors were accepted by S. M. Kirov. Since 1937, the theater has been named after S. M. Kirov. The theater participated in the first (1939) and second (1958) decades of Kyrgyz art and literature in Moscow. The theater's repertoire includes plays by Russian, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmen, Tajik, Kazakh playwrights, as well as foreign authors translated into Uzbek. Among the more than 300 performances staged at the theater are works by Hamza "Bai and Batrak," K. Yashen "Two Communists," K. Gozzi "Princess Turandot," K. Goldoni "The Servant of Two Masters," K. Malik "On High Ground," Ch. Aitmatov "Mother's Field," A. Abdugafarov "Heritage," and many others.

The theater's activities are associated with the names of People's Artists of the Kyrgyz SSR: L. Maidaro, R. Muminova, N. Namatova, T. Saliev, A. Torokh, T. Khasanova; Honored Artists: T. Badinova, G. Butaeva, M. Rasulzhanova, Sh. Tuktosunova, and others. In 1979, the theater moved to a new building (designed by A. Kurmushuev); in 1985, the chief director of the theater was M. Guliamov, the chief conductor was Z. Shakirov, the chief choreographer was R. Muminova, the chief artist was R. Akhmedzhanov, and the concertmaster was Yu. Makhmudov. The theater troupe consisted of 64 artists:
Khasanova Tajikhan (born in 1916 in the city of Osh) — actress, singer, People's Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR, performed dozens of leading roles. Tajikhan participated in the first two decades of Kyrgyz art in Moscow, was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Order of the Badge of Honor. She was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR three times.

Osh Drama Theater



The Osh Drama Theater was organized in 1972 based on the people's theater that operated at the Jalal-Abad House of Culture. The theater troupe was mainly composed of graduates of the Moscow State Institute named after A. V. Lunacharsky. The first performance was the play by the people's poet of Kyrgyzstan A. Tokombaev "Sunrise." By 1985, more than 60 performances had been staged, including: "The Spotted Dog Running Along the Edge of the Sea" by Ch. Aitmatov, "Hamlet" by W. Shakespeare, "The Government Inspector" by N. Gogol, "Don't Worry, Mama" by N. Dumbadze, "The Thirteenth Chairman" by A. Abdulev, "Ancient Tale" by M. Baidzhnev. From 1974 to 1983, the theater successfully performed with creative reports in the city of Frunze, and in 1978 — on the stage of the State Academic Small Theater in Moscow. In 1982, the theater became a laureate of the All-Union Festival of Youth Performances in Tbilisi. The theater's activities are associated with the names of actors and directors: A. Abdykalykov, M. Alyshpaev, G. Kanimetova, N. Mambetova, G. Tagaev, I. Ryskulov. The theater's director (since 1980) is B. Abdildaev, and the chief artist is A. Konushbaev (since 1972). In 1986, the creative team consisted of 52 people. The theater building was constructed in 1974.

The Osh Drama Theater named after S. Ibranmova celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1997. The theater director N. Shumurzaev noted that over 25 years, the theater staged 120 performances. The theater employs People's Artists: A. Beyshenova, T. Kudayberdiev, D. Baytobotov; Honored Artists: O. Abdullaev, N. Mambetova, K. Tagaev, G. Kanimetova, T. Amanov, R. Asanov, and others.
