Dramatist Ermenbek Toktogulov
Dramatist E. Toktogulov was born in the village of Uch-Emchek in the Talas region of Kyrgyzstan into a peasant family. In 1951, he graduated from Chaldovar Secondary School in the Leninpol region, and in 1955, he graduated from the Tashkent Theatre and Art Institute named after A. Ostrovsky. From 1967 to 1970, he underwent a directing internship at the Small Academic Theatre of the USSR in Moscow.
He began his career in 1955 as a director of the Jalal-Abad Regional Drama Theatre, and from 1957 he served as the director of the Przhevalsk Regional Drama Theatre. From 1963, he was a director, and from 1977 to 1981, he was the chief director of the Naryn Musical Drama Theatre named after M. Ryskulov. From 1971 to 1975, he was the chief director of Kyrgyz Radio, and from 1975, he served as a senior referent of the Council of Ministers of the republic. Since 1976, he was the head of the arts editorial office at the publishing house "Kyrgyzstan." From 1983, he worked as a commissioner for organizing creative meetings at the Bureau for the Promotion of Artistic Literature of the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan.
His creative debut as a poet took place in 1957. His main literary activity is associated with dramaturgy. He is the author of more than thirty multi-act and one-act plays, collected in the collections "Ai sonatasy" ("Moon Sonata"), published in 1978, and "P'esalar" ("Plays"), published in 1985. E. Toktogulov also published works as a satirical poet and a songwriter.
He was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR (1979).
He has been a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1962, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1983, and a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR since 1973.
He was awarded the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," and certificates of honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He was elected as a deputy of the Naryn City Council of People's Deputies (1960).
