Poet, journalist Barktabas Abakirov


Poet and journalist B. Abakirov was born in the village of Kum-Dyube in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region into a peasant family.
In 1950, he graduated from the M. I. Kalinin Secondary School in the village of Kochkorka, in 1955 — from the Zooveterinary Faculty of the Kyrgyz State Agricultural Institute named after K. I. Skryabin, and in 1970 — from the Journalism Faculty of the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in Moscow.
From 1955 to 1958, he worked as a zootechnician at the Kyzart state farm in the Jumgal district, and from 1958 to 1960 — as a research associate at the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine.
Since 1960, he has been engaged in journalism: from 1960 to 1963 — a literary employee of the newspaper "Sovet tik Kyrgyzstan," from 1963 to 1970 — editor of the Kochkor district newspaper "Emgek tuusu," from 1971 to 1980 — editor of the regional newspaper "Naryn pravdasy," and from 1984 to 1987 — chief editor of the magazine "Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan."
In 1970-1971, he served as an inspector in the organizational department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan, and from 1980 to 1983 — as the director of the "Kyrgyzstan" publishing house, and since 1987 — as an employee of the Republican Fund for Culture.
He has been published since 1954. The poet's first collection of poems "Chaarchik" ("Fawn") was dedicated to children and was published in 1961. Some of his works have been translated and published in Russian, Kazakh, Ukrainian, and Belarusian. He has also translated individual works of M. Yu. Lermontov, M. Tursun-Zade, R. Gamzatov, D. Kugultinov, B. Stepaiyuk, V. Beekman, and others into Kyrgyz.
In 1983, he was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR."
A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1961, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1973, and a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR since 1962.
He was awarded the Order of the "Badge of Honor," the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," a certificate of honor from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR, and a certificate of honor from the Central Committee of the Komsomol.
He was elected as a deputy of the Kochkor district (1965), Naryn regional (1972) Councils of People's Deputies, and a member of the Naryn regional committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan (1972).
