Poet Esengul Chopieva (E. Urmatvek)

Poet Esengul Chopieff (E. Urmatvek) Poet E. Chopieff was born on June 27, 1937, in the village of Kyzyl-Bairak, Kemin district, Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant family. In 1956, he graduated from the K. Marx Secondary School in the Kemin district, and in 1961— from the philological faculty of KSU.

From 1961 to 1967, he worked as a teacher in secondary schools in the Alay, Alamudun, and Kemin districts of the republic. Since 1967, he has been working as a literary employee, head of the department, and since 1975— as the responsible secretary at the editorial office of the newspaper "Emgek zharchysy" in the Kemin district.

He has been published since 1958. His first poetry collection "Zhashtyk uchkunu" ("Sparks of Youth") was published in 1969. He mainly works in the genre of satire, writing fables, humorous sketches, interludes, and parodies. He is the author of 6 poetry collections.

A member of the CPSU since 1981, a member of the USSR Union of Writers since 1985.
