Omurkulov Kadyrkul
Screenwriter. Laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Kyrgyzstan (1967). Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR (1979). Member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1961. Born on February 16, 1941, in the village of Zhylymish, Sokuluk District, Kyrgyz SSR. After graduating from high school, from 1958 to 1961 he worked as a locksmith, and then as a lathe operator at the "Krasny Metallist" factory. In 1961, he began studying at the screenwriting faculty of VGIK in the workshop of I. Manevich. Even during his student years, two films were made based on his scripts: at the institute's training studio "Red Square," and on Central Television — "Conversation with the Sun." At that time, he also wrote the narration for B. Shamshiev's film "Manaschi" and the script for the documentary "These Are Horses" by T. Okeeva. Based on K. Omurkulov's diploma script, director T. Okeeva made the film "The Sky of Our Childhood" (1966), which received nationwide and international recognition.
In 1966-1967, the young screenwriter worked as the chief editor of the Committee for Cinematography under the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR, and from 1968 to 1972 he was the chief editor of the "Kyrgyzfilm" studio. In 1973, he joined the "Kyrgyztelefilm" studio as deputy chief editor, and in 1974 he became its director and chief editor. Since 1976, he has been the head of the Kyrgyz department of APN and a correspondent for APN in Kyrgyzstan.
K. Omurkulov is one of the most talented professional screenwriters. He writes extensively and interestingly for both documentary and feature films. His scripts have led to the creation of poetic documentary films "Beshik" (1969, directed by K. Kydyraliev), "Kerez" (1973, directed by A. Alpiyev), socially significant television films "Worker" (1971, directed by K. Orozaliev), "Soviet Kyrgyzstan" (1972, directed by V. Furtychev), "From Congress to Congress" (1975, directed by B. Abdildaev), "A Tale of My City" (1977, directed by U. Dairbekov), film novellas "Swans Come Here" (1973, directed by Yu. Boretzky), "By the Old Mill" (1972, directed by U. Ibragimov), and the adaptation of the novel "Kanybek" by K. Jantošev (1978, directed by G. Bazarov).
Literary culture and psychological depth in the characterization of the main characters defined the merits of the films "Date," "Burma," "Once Upon a Time," directed by G. Bazarov, D. Sodanbek, and M. Ubuikeev in 1970, 1973, and 1974, respectively.
As a screenwriter and director, K. Omurkulov created the essay "Nomads" (1968).
