Kim Alexey


Cinematographer. Member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1973. Born on December 1, 1937, in the city of Kzyl-Orda, Kazakh SSR, in a peasant family. After graduating from high school in 1956, he entered the Tashkent Television Studio as an assistant operator. From 1958 to 1959, he worked there as an assistant operator. In September 1959, he moved to the Frunze Television Studio. From 1961 to 1965, he studied at the cinematography faculty of VGIK, and then joined the team of the "Kyrgyzfilm" studio.

While still a student, A. Kim shot several segments for the newsreel "Soviet Kyrgyzstan," the popular science film "Under a Reliable Roof" (1964). Since 1965, he has shot more than a hundred segments for the newsreel "Soviet Kyrgyzstan," the popular science film "Ancient Paths" (1965), and documentary essays "Matveeva Station," "Motive" (both in 1966), "Hunting Crossroads," "Sovereign, Equal," "Days of Kyrgyz Art and Literature in Moscow" (all in 1967), "Manezh" (1968), "Words," "Commonwealth of Energy Workers" (both in 1969), "Ice Reconnaissance," "Lava," "Holiday of Friendship," "Summit" (all in 1970).

A. Kim also successfully tried his hand at shooting feature films: "The Tenant" (1968) by U. Ibragimov, "Road to Paris" (1969) by A. Studzinskiy, and in the 1970s, he worked as a cinematographer in the films "By the Old Mill" (1972) by U. Ibragimov, "Waterfall" (1973) by Yu. Boretzky, "Smile on Stone" (1974), "Road to Kara-Kiyik" (1975), "Field of Aysulu" (1976) by U. Ibragimov. His thorough study of the life of the Kyrgyz people, their culture, as well as extensive experience in chronicles helped A. Kim create an authentic image of Kyrgyzstan on screen.

In the late 1970s, the cinematographer returned to documentary cinema and shot the films "Light of October" (1978), "Hope Tursunbubu" (1978), "True to the Traditions of the Border" (1978).

Awards—Certificate of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR (1974).

Member of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR since 1972.
