Abdykulov Karel Aydarbekovich


Cinematographer. Born on May 31, 1940, in the collective farm "Alga" of the Kant district.

After graduating from a seven-year rural school, he entered an agricultural technical school in the agronomy department and graduated in 1959. Soon he began working at the Frunze studio as a worker, a crane operator on the film "The Girl of Tien Shan" (1961) by A. Ochkina, then as a lighting technician on "The Pass" (1961) by A. Sakharov, an administrator on "The Heat" (1963) by L. Shepitko, an assistant operator on the newsreel (1962), and an operator (1963—1965). In 1968, he was the second operator on the film "Ambush" by G. Bazarov. From 1969 to 1971, he again worked as an operator on newsreels. He made his debut as a director of photography in 1972 on the feature film "Swans Fly Here" by Yu. Boretsky. As a cinematographer, he filmed documentaries such as "Rhythms of the Heavenly Mountains" (1969), "Spring of Ala-Too" (1970), "Spartakiad" (1971), "Festival of Friendship" (1972), "Drilling 521", "Days of Ripe Grain", "Order of Friendship of Peoples" (all in 1973), "My Homeland", "Otto Barch" (both in 1975), "Laszlo Mesarosh" (1976), "The Field is Being Built" (1977), "Long Road, Short Meetings" (1979).

His relentless pursuit of mastery characterizes K. Abdykulov's cinematographic activity. He has hundreds of stories that have appeared not only in the issues of the magazine "Soviet Kyrgyzstan" but also in the magazines "News of the Day", "Soviet Sport". K. Abdykulov's artistic talent manifested itself during his studies at VGIK (1965—1970). At the "VGIK-68" film festival, he was awarded the first prize for the best cinematography in the film "Communicability".

Member of the USSR Union of Cinematographers since 1974.
