Prose writer M. Imazov was born on May 1, 1941, in the village of Aleksandrovka, Moscow District, Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant family.
In 1959, he graduated from high school in his native village, and in 1964, he graduated from the Russian department of the philological faculty of KGU.
From 1968 to 1971, he studied in graduate school at the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR. He earned a Candidate of Philological Sciences degree in 1972.
He began his labor biography as a teacher of the Russian language and literature at the high school in Aleksandrovka.
Since 1971, he has worked in the Department of Oriental Studies at the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR — as a junior research fellow, senior research fellow, and since 1982, as head of the sector.
His literary career began in 1963. He writes in the Dungan language. He has published numerous stories in the Dungan newspaper "Shiyuedi Chi," the children's magazine "Baichichekey," and others. In 1976, his first children's book in Russian, "Swallow," was published. He is the author of several monographs, a popular science brochure, and textbooks for Dungan schools.
He has been a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1969 and a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1986.
