Critic, Literary Scholar A. Sadykov

Critic and literary scholar A. Sadikov was born in the village of Kara-Suu in the At-Bashinsky district of the Naryn region in a peasant family.
In 1946, he graduated from high school, and in 1953— from the philological faculty of KSU. From 1956 to 1959, he studied in graduate school while simultaneously working as a lecturer at the V. V. Mayakovsky Kyrgyz State Institute of Arts.
In 1961, he defended his dissertation for the degree of candidate of sciences, and in 1972— for the degree of doctor of philological sciences.
In 1979, he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He began his labor biography in 1953 as a lecturer at the Osh Pedagogical Institute.
Since 1960, he has worked at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR— as a junior researcher, from 1962— as a senior researcher, from 1966— as head of the department, from 1974— as deputy director, from 1980— as director, and from 1988— as a senior researcher.
He has been engaged in literary criticism and literary studies since 1956.
The object of A. Sadikov's literary research has been the problems of tradition and innovation in Kyrgyz literary science, using the works of A. Osmonov as an example, as well as the national and international, the particular and the general in Kyrgyz Soviet literature. The writer's first book was the monograph "Алыкул Осмоновдун поэзиясындагы традиция" ("Traditions and Innovations in the Poetry of Alykul Osmonov"). He is the author of several monographs, collections of literary-critical articles, reviews, and studies. The writer is also working on artistic translation. He has translated into Kyrgyz a collection of stories and tales by N. Bogdanov titled "Самое интересное" ("The Most Interesting"), as well as stories by T. Likhotal, A. Tversky, and others.
A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1958, and a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1980.
He has been awarded the "Veteran of Labor" medal and a Certificate of Honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
