Critic, literary scholar. O. Dzhakyshev was born in 1909 and died on June 1, 1978, in the village of Uch-Emchek, now part of the Kant district of the Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant-poor family.
From 1921 to 1925, he was raised and studied at the Pishpek boarding school No. 3, then until 1929 at the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School, from which he was sent to the Central Asian State University in Tashkent, and from 1931 to 1934, he continued his education at the Moscow Institute of Editorial and Publishing under the OGIZ.
From 1934 to 1937, O. Dzhakyshev worked as an editor, and from 1946 to 1947, he was the director of Kyrgyzgosizdat; from 1936 to 1937, he served as the responsible secretary of the board of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, from 1937 to 1940, he was a senior research associate in the "Manas" sector of the Institute of Language and Writing of the People's Commissariat of Education of the republic, and from 1940 to 1944 and in 1950, he was the head of the Department of Arts under the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR; from 1944 to 1946, he was the representative of the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR in the Council of Ministers of the USSR in Moscow. In 1951, he was appointed the chief editor of KirTAG, and from 1958 to 1965, he was the head of the "Manas" epic sector at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He engaged in literary activities from the early 1930s. He is the author of articles on Kyrgyz literature in the 1st and 2nd editions of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, as well as several research works on the works of Toktogul Satylganov, Togolok Moldo, J. Bokonbaev, A. Tokombaev, K. Bayalinov, and others. He is a co-author of "Essays on the History of Kyrgyz Literature," published in 1946.
A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1940 and a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1935.
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, the medals "For Labor Valor," "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," and an Honorary Certificate from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR of the second convocation.
