Literary Scholar, Critic, Playwright Tashim Baidzhiev
Literary scholar, critic, playwright T. Baidzhiev was born in the village of Tepke in the current Ak-Suu district of the Issyk-Kul region in a peasant-poor family. In 1930, he graduated from the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School, and in 1940 — from the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical Institute.
From 1930 to 1932, he worked as the director of the Gulchin orphanage in the Osh region, and from 1932 to 1936, he was the deputy director of the Jalal-Abad Medical College, teaching the Kyrgyz language, literature, and history.
From 1940 to 1942 and from 1944 to 1949, he headed the folklore sector of the epic "Manas" at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences.
From 1949 to 1950, he worked as a lecturer at the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical Institute.
T. Baidzhiev's literary activity began in the 1920s. During these years, his stories were published in print.
In 1927, a literary circle called "Kyzyl Uchkui" ("Red Spark") was organized under the newspaper "Kyzyl Kyrgyzstan," of which T. Baidzhiev was a member, alongside the first Kyrgyz Soviet writers. This circle later served as the basis for the organization of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan. In the 1930s and 1940s, he engaged in literary studies and criticism. He co-authored the first textbooks on native literature and language. The writer is also the author of the plays "On the Pasture" (1934) and "The Horsemen" (1944). T. Baidzhiev also contributed significantly to translation work. He translated the plays of A. Trenev, A. N. Ostrovsky, the works of A. S. Pushkin, I. S. Turgenev, L. N. Tolstoy, Dm. Furmanov, A. A. Fadeev, and others into Kyrgyz.
He has been a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1936.
In 1950, T. Baidzhiev was unjustly repressed and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment. In 1955, he was fully rehabilitated.
