Prose writer, translator Mamasaly Abdukarimov


Prose writer and translator M. Abdukarimov was born in the village of Japalak near the city of Osh into a poor family.
From 1919 to 1923, he was raised in an orphanage.
In 1924-1925, he studied at the Kazakh-Kyrgyz Institute of Enlightenment in Tashkent, and from 1925 to 1930, he attended the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School in Frunze.
He began his labor biography in 1930 as the responsible secretary of the newspaper "Leninchil Zhash," and from 1938 to 1940, he worked as an editor for this newspaper. M. Abdukarimov is the organizer of a printing house in the city of Kyzyl-Kiya, where he was appointed director in December 1930 and simultaneously served as the responsible secretary of the mining newspaper "Komur Uchun" until 1935.
From 1933 to 1950, with breaks, he worked at the newspaper "Kyzyl Kyrgyzstan": as the responsible secretary (1933-1938), deputy editor (1940-1943 and 1947-1950), and editor (1939-1940).
From 1943 to 1947, he was the secretary of the Osh Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan, from 1950 to 1957, he was the head of the department of artistic original literature at Kyrgyzgosizdat, and from 1957 to 1968, he was a literary employee at the editorial office of the newspaper "Sovettik Kyrgyzstan." Since 1968, he has been a personal pensioner of republican significance.
M. Abdukarimov has been engaged in literary creativity since his student years. During his studies at the pedagogical technical school, he actively participated in the creation of the literary circle "Kyzyl Uchkun" ("Red Spark") along with young talented classmates K. Djantoshev, M. Elebaev, J. Bokonbaev, U. Abdukaimov, K. Malikov, and S. Sasykbaev.
In 1928, his first story "Zhyzn Kurmush" ("The Life of Kurmush") was published in the newspaper "Kyzyl Kyrgyzstan," and in 1932, his first collection of stories "Kyzyl Emgek" ("Red Labor") was released. A significant work in M. Abdukarimov's oeuvre is the duology "Zhashagym Kelet" ("I Want to Live"), the first book of which was published in 1960 and the second in 1965. The writer's works have also been published in Russian. He is the compiler of several anthologies on native literature for Kyrgyz schools.
In 1932, he translated L. N. Seifullina's novella "Muzhiki" into Kyrgyz. Since then, M. Abdukarimov has been recognized as a translator of artistic literature. He has also translated many works of the classics of Marxism-Leninism, the history of the CPSU, and textbooks on philosophy and logic.
A member of the CPSU since 1939, a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1955, and a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR since 1930.
He has been awarded the Orders of the "Badge of Honor" and the Patriotic War 1st class, medals for "Labor Distinction," "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," "Veteran of Labor," "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," and others, as well as honorary certificates from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR and the Central Committee of the Komsomol.
He was elected a member of the Frunze City Committee, the Osh Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan, and a deputy of the Osh Regional Council of People's Deputies.
