Critic and literary scholar K. Asanaliev was born on June 10, 1928, in the village of Sokuluk (now the city of Shopokovo in the Sokuluk district of the Kyrgyz SSR) into a peasant family.
In 1946, he graduated from Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A. S. Pushkin in Frunze, and in 1950, he completed the Faculty of Kyrgyz Language and Literature at the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical Institute.
In 1950, he entered the graduate school at the Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) in Moscow.
In 1953, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences.
From 1955 to 1966 and from 1976 to 1981, he worked at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR as a junior research fellow, senior research fellow, and deputy director, and since 1981, he has headed the department of Kyrgyz Soviet literature.
K. Asanaliev is the author of several monographic studies, literary-critical works, and articles dedicated to current methodological and creative issues in the development of modern Kyrgyz literature, among which the following should be highlighted: "Тугелбай Сыдыкбековдун романдары" ("The Novels of Tugelbai Sydykbekov"), "Кыргызсовет прозасынын очерктери" ("Essays on Kyrgyz Soviet Prose"), "Доор менен бирге" ("In Step with the Times"), and in Russian — "Открытие человека современности" ("The Discovery of the Modern Man"), "Движение во времени" ("Movement in Time"), and others.
The literary studies of K. Asanaliev on pressing issues of the development of Kyrgyz Soviet literature and the works of Kyrgyz writers T. Sydykbekov, Ch. Aitmatov, and others are distinguished by the depth of analysis and the breadth of generalization in the context of the development of the entire multinational Soviet literature.
