
Poet K. Akaev was born on November 7, 1919—May 19, 1982, in the village of Kyzyl-Suu, Kemin District, Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant family. He grew up and was raised in an orphanage and boarding school. In 1935, he graduated from the Dzhanay-Alysh Secondary School, and in 1939—Kyrgyz State Pedagogical Institute. From 1939 to 1941, he worked in the editorial offices of the newspapers "Kyzyl Kyrgyzstan," "Kyrgyzstan Pioneers," and the magazine "Literature and Art." From 1941 to 1949, he served as the responsible editor of literary and dramatic broadcasting at Kyrgyz Radio, and as the chief editor of the Frunze studio of chronicle-documentary films. From 1949 to 1953, he was the responsible secretary of the magazine "Soviet Kyrgyzstan," and from 1953 to 1965—senior editor of artistic original literature at Kyrgyzgosizdat, and from 1965 to 1980—director of the Kyrgyz branch of the USSR Literary Fund.
He began publishing in 1938. In 1941, his first poetry collection "Zhylazhyn" ("The Bell's Ring") was released. The poet's works have been published in Russian. He translated and published works by Y. Rainis, M. Tursun-Zade, A. Surkov, and others into Kyrgyz.
He was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR (1979).
A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1947, and a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1943.
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, medals for "Labor Distinction," "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941—1945," and Honorary Certificates from the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan and the USSR.
