In 1962, he entered the graduate school of the AON under the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow. After a brief break, he resumed his studies in 1965 and defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences that same year.

He is the author of the novella "Tushtuk kyzy" ("Girl from the South"), poetry collections "Makhabatym araly" ("Island of Love"), "Tak shokumu" ("Early Dawns"), and others, which have also been published in Russian; the novella "Girl from the South" is known to Latvian readers as well.
