Poet, Prose Writer Shatman Sadybakassov

Poet and prose writer Sh. Sadibakassov was born in the village of Dykkan in the Jumgal district of the Naryn region in a peasant family. In 1950, he graduated from high school, and in 1955— from the philological faculty of KSU.
He began his career as a literary worker at the editorial office of the magazine "Zhas Leninchi," and from 1961 he worked as an editor at the publishing house "Kyrgyzstan," from 1965— as head of the department, and from 1975 until the end of his life— as the chief editor of the magazine "Ala-Too."
He engaged in literary creativity since the 1950s. The first book by the writer was a collection of short stories "Peyil" ("Soul"), published in 1958. A significant work in Sh. Sadibakassov's oeuvre was the novel "Kunder" ("Days"), published in 1965, and the drama "Ak-boz at" ("Gray Horse"), which were translated and published in Russian. He is the author of more than ten collections of prose works, one poetry collection, and several publications in Russian.
A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1962, a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1960.
He was awarded the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," a Certificate of Honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR, and a Certificate of Honor from the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan.
