Dramatist, translator Kasymbek Eshmambetov

Dramatist and translator K. Eshmambetov was born in the village of Orto-Sai (now in the Alamedin district of the Kyrgyz SSR) to a peasant family. Until 1920, he studied at a rural school, and in 1930, he graduated from the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School in Frunze.

From 1930 to 1932, he worked as a teacher at the Frunze Medical Technical School, from 1933 to 1936 at the Financial Technical School, and from 1936 to 1937 as the director of the Construction Technical School.

K. Eshmambetov's first story "The Mystery of Nature" was published in 1930, and in 1937 he wrote his first play "Saryndzhi". In 1959, a collection of plays titled "Egiz bala" ("Twins") was published, and K. Eshmambetov authored a number of novellas, short stories, and children's fairy tales. He is the author of the libretto for the opera "Anar". The writer invested considerable effort in translating the works of the classics of world and Russian literature into Kyrgyz. In 1936, he translated Shakespeare's "Hamlet", followed by "King Lear", "Othello"; A. Ostrovsky's play "Poverty is No Vice", and works by A. S. Pushkin, M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, F. M. Dostoevsky, L. N. Tolstoy, A. I. Kuprin, D. M. Furmanov, A. Rybakov, and others.

A member of the CPSU since 1944, he has been a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1939.

He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, the medal "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", and honorary certificates from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR.
