Prose writer and playwright K. Djantoshev was born in 1904 and died on August 13, 1968, in the village of Tepke in what is now the Tyup district of the Issyk-Kul region, in a peasant-poor family.
From 1918 to 1924, he studied at a rural school, and in 1930, he graduated from the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School in Frunze.
He began his labor biography as a teacher at the Kyrgyz Pedagogical Technical School and taught for some time in courses for preparing chairmen of village councils.
From 1931 to 1933, he worked as a methodologist for the People's Commissariat of Education of the Kyrgyz ASSR, head of the district education department in the Uzgen district, and from 1934 to 1948, he was an actor, director, and stage director at the Kyrgyz Drama Theater.
From 1948 to 1949, he served as editor at Kyrgyzgosizdat, from 1949 to 1951, he was the head of the Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR, and from 1964 to 1968, he was the chief editor of the repertoire and editorial board of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR.
K. Djantoshev's creative path began during his studies at the pedagogical technical school. At that time, he wrote poetry and several one-act plays for the drama club.
In 1928, he wrote the play "Karachach" ("The Dark-Haired Woman") about the bitter fate of Kyrgyz women before the revolution. In the plays "Alym and Maria," "Dardash," and others created by the writer in the 1930s, the events of collectivization in the Kyrgyz village are reflected. At the same time, he tried his hand at prose genres.
In 1938, the novella "Eki jash" ("Young") was published, and in 1939 and 1941, the first two volumes of the adventure novel "Kanybek" were released.
In 1942, he created the heroic drama "Kurmanbek" based on the motifs of the folk epic, and the play "Revenge" about the heroism of Soviet partisans. In the post-war years, he wrote the play "The Singer of the People," dedicated to Toktogul Satylganov, and "The Taming of the Shrew."
In 1948, the third volume was published, and in 1958, the fourth volume of the novel "Kanybek" was released. This novel and the drama "Kurmanbek" have become part of the golden fund of Kyrgyz national culture. The writer is also the author of the novel "Chaban from Khan-Tengri" (1963), the novellas "Tilek" ("Dream," 1949), "Zhalynduu zhashtar" ("Fiery Youth," 1951), and many short stories and fairy tales for children.
In 1957, the poem "Mendirman," written based on oral folk creativity, was published as a separate book. The works of K. Djantoshev have been published in Russian. The writer is also known as a master of artistic translation. He translated into Kyrgyz the plays of A. N. Ostrovsky "The Dowry" and the novel by N. Ostrovsky "How the Steel Was Tempered," among others.
