Improvisational Poet Alymkul Usenbaev

From the age of 14, A. Usenbaev played melodies on the komuz and composed his own songs. In 1912, he met Toktogul Satylganov, who had come to the Talas Valley. The great akyn noticed the talented young man. Together, they traveled around the villages of the Talas Valley. A. Usenbaev's first works were love lyrics and songs that narrated the hard fate of the common people and the orphaned life of the akyn himself.
From the first days of Soviet power, A. Usenbaev became a herald of the revolution that brought a new bright life to Kyrgyz land. In his songs, he glorified the great Lenin and the Communist Party.
His first poetry collection "Yrlary Zhynagy" was published in 1938. In many of his works, the akyn celebrates the friendship of the peoples of the Soviet Union. During the Great Patriotic War, he composed a number of poems and songs dedicated to the heroic feats of Soviet people at the front and in the rear, glorifying the immortal deeds of the Panfilov heroes in the poems "Cholponbay," "Kyrgyz Sons," "Named by the Guard," "Song of Kogart," "Suusamyr," "Health Resort," and others, which were published in the collection "Sogushup Jatkan Elderge" ("To the Warring Peoples," 1942). The peak of the akyn's creativity was reached in the post-war years. He created the poems "Great Friend," "First Brigade," "Mountain Nightingale," and "Song of Happiness." Poetry collections "My Land," "Komuz," and others were published in Russian. In his works, he glorified the creative peaceful labor of Soviet people, expressing joy and pride for his fellow countrymen—heroes of labor. He created many songs of guidance for the younger generation.
A. Usenbaev is known as a talented performer of the folk epic. His words were recorded and published in Kyrgyz folk epic poems "Kojodzhash" (1938), "Sarynjy-Bokey" (1938), "Oljobai and Kishimdzhan" (1940). Based on Kyrgyz folklore, he created the poems "Kozulan," "Hunter Junusbay," and others. A. Usenbaev made a significant contribution to the collection and publication of the creative heritage of his teacher Toktogul Satylganov.
