Improvisational singer and akyn-songwriter O. Bolebalaev was born in 1888—1967 in the village of Chondaly (now part of the Kant district of the Kyrgyz SSR) in a family of a herdsman.
He learned to read and write from the village mullah. In his youth, he composed love lyrical and lyrical-epic songs. As an improvisational singer, he emerged after the Great October Socialist Revolution.
The development of O. Bolebalaev's creativity as an akyn was significantly influenced by K. Akiev, with whom he met in 1918. They performed together at celebrations in Pishpek dedicated to the establishment of the Kyrgyz Soviet Autonomous Region (1924).
A characteristic feature of O. Bolebalaev's improvisational creativity was the high artistic mastery of the akyn-performer. He dedicated his works to the party, Lenin, and praised the new life of his region. His main works consist of aitysh (poetic duels).
In 1926, he participated in the Turkological Congress in Baku and delivered a greeting there.
Since 1926, O. Bolebalaev has been associated with the Kyrgyz National Theater, and in 1930 he joined a theatrical studio, later transformed into the Kyrgyz Drama Theater. From 1936 to 1954, he worked as a soloist of the Toktogul Satylganov Kyrgyz State Philharmonic.
In 1936, the first collection of poems by O. Bolebalaev, "Osmonkuldun yrlary" ("Songs of Osmonkul"), was published.
The most famous works of the akyn include the poems "Saparbek," "Alimkan," "Baatyrebek," and others.
In 1958, books by Osmonkul were published in Russian: "We Sing of Happiness" (1958) and "Ashymdzhan" (1964).
