
Poet A. Degenbaeva was born on May 12, 1941, in the village of Belovodskoye, Moscow District, Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant family.
In 1961, she graduated from the School of Working Youth No. 7 in Frunze, and in 1967, she completed the correspondence department of the philological faculty of KGU.
Since 1964, she worked as an educator at the V. Tereshkova boarding school in Osh, from 1965 as a laboratory assistant, from 1967 as a lecturer at the Osh Pedagogical Institute, from 1976 as a consultant for the Osh branch of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, and from 1985 as the head of the literary department of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor Kyrgyz Academic Drama Theater.
She has been published since 1962. Her first poetry collection "Kyzyl Monchok" ("Red Beads") was published in 1972. Under the same title, a book in Russian was released in 1984 by the "Soviet Writer" publishing house. The poetess's works have been published in Ukrainian, Uzbek, and Kazakh languages.
She has been a member of the USSR Union of Writers since 1975.
She was awarded the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin" and a certificate of honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
