Poet S. Akmatbekova was born in the village of Orto-Aryk in the Panfilov district of the Kyrgyz SSR in a peasant family.
After graduating from high school in her native village in 1966, she studied at the evening department of the FPI while simultaneously working as a typist at the publishing house
“Mektep.”
In 1973, she graduated from the A. M. Gorky Literary Institute under the USSR Union of Writers in Moscow. Since 1973, she has worked as a literary staff member and later as the head of the department at the editorial office of the magazine “Kyrgyzstan Ayalдары.”
She has been published since 1970. In 1970, her first poetry collection “Jamgyr” (“Rain”) was published. The creativity of the poetess is one of the bright pages of meditative lyricism in Kyrgyz poetry. She also works productively in the field of poetic translation. Her translations of works from Eastern poetry into Kyrgyz are among the best examples of poetic translation in Kyrgyz literature.
She has been a member of the USSR Union of Writers since 1975.
