The Poet Akbar Ryskulov

Poet A. Ryskulov was born on April 4, 1953, in the village of Chym-Korgon, Kemin district of the Kyrgyz SSR, in a peasant family.
In 1970, he graduated from high school in his native village, and in 1975— from the philological faculty of KSU named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR.
He began his labor biography as a proofreader at the editorial office of the newspaper "Leninchil Zhash," where he subsequently worked as an editor-translator, correspondent, head of department, responsible secretary, deputy editor, and since 1986, as the editor of this newspaper.
From 1983 to 1986, he worked in the apparatus of the board of the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan as a literary consultant for working with creative youth, head of department at the editorial office of the magazine "Ala-Too."
In 1987, he was elected secretary of the board of the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan.
He has been publishing since 1966. His first poetry collection "Keguchkender biyik uchushat" ("Doves Fly High") was published in 1975. Individual poems have been published in Russian, Kazakh, and English. The poet works fruitfully in the field of poetic translation into the Kyrgyz language. He has translated the book by I. Maznin "Rasskazhite, oblaka" ("Tell Me, Clouds"), works by L. Levchev, Ho Chi Minh, I. Goethe, and others.
The poetry collection "Mezgil zhebesi" ("Clock Hands") and the poem "Arterii vremeni" ("Arteries of Time") were awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize of the republic in 1983.
He has been a member of the CPSU since 1980, a member of the USSR Union of Writers since 1978, and a member of the USSR Writers' Union since 1979.
He participated in the IV International Meeting of Young Writers from Asian and African countries, held in 1982 in Frunze.
He was elected a member of the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan (1986).
