Poet Mayramkan Abylkasymova


Poet M. Abylkasymova was born in the village of Almaluu in the Kemin district of the Kirghiz SSR in a teacher's family.
In 1950, she graduated from a rural seven-year school, studied at a pedagogical college affiliated with the Kyrgyz Women's Teacher Training Institute, and in 1958 graduated from the Kyrgyz Women's Pedagogical Institute named after V. V. Mayakovsky.
From 1958 to 1962, she worked as a literary staff member at the Osh regional newspaper "Lenin: yolu," and since 1962 has been the head of the poetry department at the editorial office of the magazine "Ala-Too."
She has been published since 1952. In 1961, her first poetry collection "Kichinekey dostorgo" ("To Little Friends") was published. She has several books published in Russian, and her works have been published in Ukraine and the People's Republic of Bulgaria. The poetess's poems have been published in Belarusian, Tajik, Kazakh, Mongolian, German, Polish, English, and French.

In 1970, she was awarded the All-Union Lenin Komsomol Prize for her poetry collection "Veru v serdtse khranyu" ("I Keep Faith in My Heart") (1968) and the poem "Pamyatnik ne molchit" ("The Monument Does Not Remain Silent"), "Otchizna eto znayet" ("The Motherland Knows This").
In 1984, her poetry collection "Gulder suu surayt" ("Flowers Ask for Water") was awarded the State Prize of the Kyrgyz SSR named after Toktogul Satylganov.
A member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1970, a member of the Union of Soviet Writers since 1964.
She has been awarded the Order of the "Badge of Honor," the medal "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," the silver medal "In Defense of Peace," and Honorary Certificates from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR, the Ukrainian SSR, and the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan.
