Ysmayil Boronchiev (1910—1978) — an improvisational poet, People's Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR (1958), member of the Union of Writers of the USSR (1938). He was born in the village of Alchaluu, now in the Chui region, into a poor family. His songwriting began in 1929, and his first songs were dedicated to social themes: "The First Five-Year Plan" ("Birinchi беш жылдык"), "Good Collective Farm" ("Жакшы колхоз"), "Kyrgyzstan," "Zuurakan" (the name of the heroine), and others.
Ysmayil Boronchiev also participated in the first All-Kyrgyz Olympiad of Folk Musical Creativity. On the jury's recommendation, he was accepted into the Kyrgyz State Philharmonic as a soloist. He was greatly influenced by older, more experienced colleagues — Kalik Akiev, Osmonkul Bolebalaev, and Alymkul Usenbaev.
Boronchiev often competed in song contests with many akyns. He particularly enjoyed participating in "aytysh" with the akyn Toktonaly Shabdanbaev. Boronchiev had his own "personal" musical theme, which he used in both solo and dialogical song-poetic works. In one of the "aytysh" performances between Ysmayil Boronchiev and Toktonaly Shabdanbaev, this theme, melodic and broad, is presented with numerous variant repetitions. Boronchiev sings in a lower register than his colleague and possesses a more developed melodic recitation.
Ysmayil Boronchiev began publishing in 1940. A total of six books of his poetry have been published, which also include texts of numerous "terme" and "aytysh." In addition, a book of his memoirs titled "Menin emurum" ("My Life") has been published. Ysmayil Boronchiev also received government awards.
