Witz Bela

Uitz Bela
(1887-1972)Monumentalist. Outstanding Hungarian artist. He lived and worked in Kyrgyzstan from 1936 to 1937. Born on March 8, 1887. In 1907, he studied at the School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. In 1916, at the World Exhibition in San Francisco, Uitz received a Gold Medal. In 1919, during the Hungarian Soviet Republic, he led the Proletarian Art Workshop. He lived in exile in Vienna (1920—1924), in Paris (1924—1926), and in Moscow (1926—1970), where he served as the dean of the painting faculty at the All-Union Art and Technical Institute (VKhUTEMAS) and led a composition course.
In 1930, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. In 1930, Uitz organized the International Bureau of Revolutionary Artists.
In 1954, he received a Gold Medal for frescoes in the pavilions of the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy in Moscow. In 1936, at the invitation of the Kyrgyz government, he came to Frunze. Uitz teaches youth the fundamentals of professional craftsmanship, to which he dedicated his life.
