Gladkov Vasily Savelievich

Graphic artist. Born on February 10, 1927, in the city of Przhevalsk. In 1964, he graduated from the painting department of the Baku Art College named after Azami Azizade. From 1956 to 1958, he studied at the Leningrad Higher Artistic and Industrial School named after V.I. Mukhina in the monumental-decorative department (did not graduate).

Since 1967 - a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.

Like all Kyrgyz graphic artists, Gladkov experienced a fascination with linocut in the 1960s, strongly influenced by the work of L.A. Ilyina. His first successes were illustrations for the books "The Earth and Its Children" by Togolok Moldo and "Folk Lyric Poetry of Kyrgyzstan" (awarded a bronze medal at the VDNH of the USSR and a diploma at the All-Union Book Art Competition). Subsequently, the artist continued to work primarily in linocut as a book illustrator. A significant achievement for Gladkov as a printmaker is his autolithography. Alongside his work in black-and-white book and printmaking, the artist consistently worked in color graphics (watercolor, pastel) and oil painting.

Participant in republican and international exhibitions. His works are housed in the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after G. Aitiev, as well as in museums of the CIS.
