Simonyan Yuri Ivanovich
Film production organizer, film director. Born on December 25, 1931, in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, in a family of a civil servant, died in 1978 in Frunze. After graduating from high school in 1951, he began working under contract at the "Azerbaijanfilm" studio. From 1954 to 1967, he climbed all the ranks of film production organization. He served as the senior administrator on the films "The Happiest Day" (1955) and "Azerbaijan SSR at VDNH" (1956), as the assistant director on the films "This is How a Song is Born" (1959) by R. Takhmasib and S. Mikailov, and "Shadows Creep" (1959) by I. Efendiyev—then as a director, he worked on the films "Stepmother" (1959) by A. Ismailov, "Tale of Love" (1961) by L. Safarov, "The Force of Attraction" (1966) by G. Ssyidbeyli, and others.
In 1967, at the invitation of the Committee for Cinematography under the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR, Y. Simonyan came to "Kyrgyzfilm" and began working on the widescreen feature film "Shot at the Karash Pass" directed by B. Shamsiev. He also demonstrated high organizational qualities as the director of the films "Smile on the Stone" (1974) by U. Ibragimov and "The Eye of the Needle" (1976) by G. Bazarov.
