Poet, translator Yuri Smyshlyaev Poet and translator Y. Smyshlyaev was born on April 16, 1937, and passed away on December 26, 1983, in the village of Petrovskoye, Urum district, Kirov region, in a teacher's family. In 1954, he graduated from high school in Urum, and in 1959, he graduated from the A. M. Gorky Literary Institute under the USSR Writers' Union in Moscow.

He began his working biography in 1954 as a laborer; he collaborated with the newspaper "Priziv" of the Bui district in Kirov region, and worked as a digger in the construction of the stadium in Luzhniki and the Moscow Metro.
From 1959 until the end of his life, he lived and worked in Frunze.

Y. Smyshlyaev began writing poetry at an early age. He was published starting in 1953. The poet's first publication was the dramatic poem "At the Walls of Pishpek," released in 1964. He is the author of several collections of poems and poems. The works of Y. Smyshlyaev are deeply poetic, characterized by penetrating lyricism and fiery journalism.

The poet is one of the best translators of Kyrgyz poetry into Russian. He translated works by
O. Bolebalaev, T. Umetaliev, S. Dzhusuev, R. Ryskulov, M. Abylkasymova, and others. He is the author of the translation of the poetry collection "I Keep Faith in My Heart" (1968), and the poems "The Monument Does Not Remain Silent" and "The Motherland Knows This" by M. Abylkasymova, which were awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize of the country in 1970.
He has been a member of the USSR Writers' Union since 1967.
