
Botbaev Ilyas Mahmudovich (1931), Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (1984), Professor (1990), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (1997), Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR in the field of science and technology.
Kyrgyz. Born in the village of Kara-Suu, Toktogul District, Talas Region. Graduated from the Kyrgyz Agricultural Institute (1953), postgraduate studies at the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Animal Morphology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1959).
Worked as a junior researcher at the Institute of Zoology and Parasitology of the Kyrgyz SSR Academy of Sciences, senior researcher, head of the sector, deputy director, general director, head of the department of Kyrgyz Research Institute of Animal Husbandry, vice-president, and since 1995 - president of the State Agency for Animal Breeding "Asyl-Mal".
Specialist in sheep and goat breeding. Author of the Alai breed of sheep, Issyk-Kul merino, Kyrgyz down and wool goat breeds.
Corresponding member of VASKHNIIL (1991). Awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, Honorary Certificates from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR, and medals of the USSR. Laureate of the S. I. Vavilov Prize. Honored Scientist of the Kyrgyz Republic (1995). Published over 300 scientific works, including 20 books and brochures, 12 inventions. Under his supervision, 6 doctoral and 5 candidate dissertations have been defended.
