Critic, translator Kurmanbek Abdykerimov


Critic and translator K. Abdykerimov was born in the village of Burana, Chuy region of the Kyrgyz SSR, in a teacher's family.
In 1956, he graduated from Kyrgyz Secondary School No. 5 named after A. S. Pushkin in Frunze, and in 1961— from the Russian department of the philological faculty of KGU.
From 1961 to 1969, he worked as an editor at the "Kyrgyzstan" publishing house, senior editor, and from 1974 to 1979— as the chief editor of the State Publishing House of the Kyrgyz SSR; from 1969 to 1974— head of the department at the "Mektep" publishing house, from 1979 to 1981— senior scientific editor of the Main Editorial Board of the KSE, and since 1981— senior scientific editor of the Main Editorial Board for the publication of the complete works of V. I. Lenin in the Kyrgyz language at the Institute of Party History under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan.
He has been publishing since 1959. He is the author of several books and articles dedicated to the problems of artistic translation, as well as Kyrgyz versification. His first collection of literary-critical articles "Turkun aserler" ("Diversity of Impressions") was published in 1960. The writer primarily engages in artistic translation into the Kyrgyz language. He has translated works by A. Stendhal, L. N. Tolstoy, A. M. Gorky, V. Kozhevnikov, M. Slutsky, K. Simonov, and others.
He has been a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1971, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1972, and a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR since 1967.
He has been awarded the "Excellence in Soviet Printing" badge.
