Prose writer O. Aitimbetov was born in the village of Sary-Kamysh in the Issyk-Kul district of the Issyk-Kul region in a peasant family.
In 1965, he graduated from Secondary School No. 2 named after J. Bokonbaev in the town of Rybachye, and in 1967, he completed a one-year course for training Russian language teachers for national schools in the town of Tokmak. In 1976, he attended the correspondence department of the philological faculty of KGU named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR.
He began his working biography as a sailor at the Issyk-Kul Shipping Company in 1964.
From 1967, he worked as a teacher in schools in the Issyk-Kul, At-Bashinsky, and Kochkor districts; from 1972, he was a translator at the editorial office of the district newspaper "Zarya Kommunizma"; from 1974, he was a literary employee at the newspaper "Kyrgyzstan Madeniyaty".
Since 1975, O. Aitimbetov has been a literary employee and senior editor of the magazine "Zhas Leninchi"; since 1980, he has been a literary consultant for the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan in the Issyk-Kul region; from 1984 to 1985, he was the director of the House of Actors of the theatrical society of the Kyrgyz SSR, and from 1987 to 1988, he was the senior editor-screenwriter of the film studio "Kyrgyzfilm".
He has been published since 1972. In 1976, his first collection of stories "Butpegen yr" ("The Unceasing Song") was published. He also publishes in Russian, and his stories have been translated and published in English, French, German, and Czech. He is the author of plays "Apendi", "For Soviet Power", "Mistake", "Punishment", and others. He translated stories by A. M. Gorky, L. Andreev, I. Bunin, N. Telezhov, A. Fadeev, and others into Kyrgyz.
He has been a member of the Writers' Union of the USSR since 1980.
He was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan.
