An analysis was conducted of the most significant documentary and feature films of the republic's film studio from 1939 to 1967. This same period in the development of Kyrgyz cinema has been covered in articles by film scholars published in volumes 3 and 4 of "History of Soviet Cinema" (Moscow, "Art", 1975, 1977) and in "History of Kyrgyz Art" (Frunze, "Ilm", 1971). K. Ashimov's book "Cinema - the Magical Art" (Frunze, "Kyrgyzstan", 1975) is a collection of his articles dedicated to various pressing issues of national cinema.

A brief outline of the history of cinema development in the republic, "The Screen of Kyrgyzstan Tells," was published in 1976 in Moscow by the Bureau for the Propagation of Soviet Cinematic Art.

K. Ashimov is the compiler (together with V. Furtychev) and author of individual sections of the book "Cinema of Soviet Kyrgyzstan" from the series "Cinematic Art of the Union Republics," which was published by "Art" in 1979.
