Dramatist and translator A. Abdugafurov was born on December 17, 1941, in the city of Osh to a working-class family.
In 1959, he graduated from high school in Osh, in 1966 he completed the correspondence course of the philological faculty of the Osh Pedagogical Institute, and in 1978 he graduated from the correspondence course of the journalism faculty of the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in Moscow.
From 1959 to 1962, he worked as a watchmaker, from 1962 to 1964 he was a teacher at the school named after the 25th anniversary of the October Revolution in Osh, and from 1964 to 1973, he worked as a literary employee, deputy responsible secretary, and head of the department at the editorial office of the Uzbek newspaper "Lenin Yuli."
From 1973 to 1983, A. Abdugafurov served as the director of the Osh Uzbek Musical-Dramatic Theater named after S. M. Kirov, from 1984 to 1985 he was an instructor at the Osh Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan, and since 1986, he has been the head of the Osh Regional Department of the State Committee for Publishing of the Kyrgyz SSR.
He writes in Uzbek.
His debut in dramaturgy was the staging of the comedy "Repentance" in 1969 at the Osh Uzbek Musical-Dramatic Theater named after S. M. Kirov. He is the author of the plays "Greed" (1972), "Dear Rival" (1974), and the drama on a military-patriotic theme "Heritage of the Fathers" (1985), among others, which have been staged in theaters of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
In 1983, he published a collection of plays "Atalar murosi" ("Heritage of the Fathers") and in 1985 a collection of satirical stories and interludes "Sıylyk belushtuuruu" ("Distribution of the Prize"). He translated the plays of Kyrgyz playwrights T. Abdumomunov, M. Baidzhiev, B. Zhakiev, and the tragedy of Euripides "Medea" into Kyrgyz.
In 1980, A. Abdugafurov was awarded the honorary title "Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz SSR."
He has been a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1966, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1976, and a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR since 1976.
He was elected as a deputy of the Osh City Council of People's Deputies in 1985.
