Abdumomunov Toktobolot, writer, playwright, screenwriter


Playwright and prose writer T. Abdumomunov was born on August 15, 1922, in the village of Jany-Alysh, Kemin district of the Kyrgyz SSR, in the family of a civil servant.

In 1938, he graduated from a medical college in Frunze. In 1939, he enrolled in the Kyrgyz State Medical Institute, but had to leave his studies due to illness in his third year. In 1938, he worked as the head of a paramedic station in the village of Josholu, Gulkhin district (now Alai) of Osh region, and from 1941 to 1959, he worked as a proofreader, editor, and translator at Kyrgosizdat and the republican radio committee, as a correspondent for the Osh regional newspaper "Lenin yolu," a translator for the Proceedings of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in Moscow, and head of the department at the magazine "Sovettik Kyrgyzstan." From 1959 to 1971, he served as the first secretary of the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan and secretary of the board of the Writers' Union of the USSR, and from 1974 to 1986, he was the chairman of the Presidium of the Theater Society of the Kyrgyz SSR. In 1986, at the VIII Congress of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, he was elected secretary of the board of the Writers' Union of Kyrgyzstan, and in 1987, at the 1st Founding Congress of Theater Workers of the Republic, he was elected deputy chairman of the board of the Union of Theater Workers of Kyrgyzstan.

T. Abdumomunov entered literature in 1945. His first play "Sand Dune" about the life and work of Kyrgyz oil scouts was staged at the Kyrgyz Dramatic Theater in 1947, followed by the plays "Contemporaries" (1948), "Kurman" (1950), and "Narrow Gorge" (1953). He is the author of several plays: "Daughter of Atabek" (1956), "Not Subject to Appeal" (1962), comedies: "Borbash" (1949), "Who Laughs Last" (1970), children's dramas: "My Poor Karagul" (1980), "Flowers of Happiness" (1971), and others, which became milestones in the playwright's career.

T. Abdumomunov's plays have been staged in all theaters of the republic and in many theaters across the country. The play "Not Subject to Appeal" was staged in forty theaters of the Soviet Union, while "Narrow Gorge" was performed at the State Academic Theater named after Evgeny Vakhtangov in Moscow. He is also known as a screenwriter, being the author of the script for the feature film "Far in the Mountains" (1958). He has written several articles on the problems of Kyrgyz dramaturgy and theater.

Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR (1972), People's Writer of Kyrgyzstan (1986). In 1987, he was awarded the State Prize of the Kyrgyz SSR named after Toktogul Satylganov for the plays "Not Subject to Appeal" and "Love and Hope."

He has been awarded three Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, many medals, and Certificates of Honor.

Member of the CPSU since 1959, member of the Writers' Union of the USSR since 1947.

Elected as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 6th convocation, the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR of the 7th and 8th convocations, at the 11th Congress of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan — a candidate for membership in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan, and at the 12th to 15th congresses — a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan.

Work Experience
1938-1941 - Head of the paramedic station in the village of Josholu, Gulkhin district, Osh region.
1941-1959 - Proofreader, editor, translator (including translator into Kyrgyz for the Proceedings of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and head of the department at the magazine "Sovettik Kyrgyzstan").

1986-1989 - Secretary of the Board of the WU of Kyrgyzstan.
In 1987, he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Union of Theater Workers of Kyrgyzstan.
