Issyk-Kul Regional Musical and Drama Theater named after Djantoshev

The Issyk-Kul Regional Musical and Drama Theater named after K. Jantoshov is currently the only professional theater in the region. According to archival data, the Issyk-Kul Regional Musical and Drama Theater named after K. Jantoshov was established in 1937. The organizer of the first creative team was K. Urmanbetov, along with his like-minded directors T. Kurmanov, D. Koychumanov, and B. Korolkov. The first actors of the theater included A. Zhankorozova, M. Junushev, A. Boobekov, A. Kozhobekov, S. Komochev, D. Sariyev, A. Buruldayeva, and S. Meerkhanov, as well as the famous actor of theater and cinema, dancer Mahmut Esenbaev. Between 1937 and 1939, the theater produced performances such as "Kokoy Kesti" by M. Toibayev, "Karachach" by K. Jantoshov, "Kuluypa" by K. Malikov, "The Marriage" by N. Gogol, "The Stone Guest" by A. Pushkin, and the performance "Toktogul" by Zh. Bokonbaev participated in the All-Union Festival in Moscow in 1939 and received recognition from a multinational audience.
At this festival, director D. Koychumanov and actress A. Zhankorozova were awarded the titles of honored artists of the republic, and the theater itself received a certificate of honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the Great Patriotic War, the theater continued its activities. In the post-war years, the theater developed rapidly.
In 1983, a new building for the theater was constructed in the city of Karakol, and that same year the team was supplemented with new staff, including actors who graduated from GITIS, VGIK, and the Shchepkin Higher Theater School.
The core of the troupe consists of graduates from Moscow theater universities, as well as the Tashkent Theater Institute, the Almaty Theater Institute named after Zhurganova, and theater studios in the republic.

In 1985, the theater was named after the outstanding playwright Kasymaly Jantoshov.
In 2001, with the performance "Abai," our theater participated in an international festival dedicated to the 100th anniversary of M. Auezov in Almaty.
In 2006, the theater participated in the international festival of Turkic-speaking theaters "Tuganlyk" in Ufa.
In 2010, our team participated in the international festival of Turkic-speaking theaters "Nauruz" in Kazan. At the international festival of Turkic-speaking theaters
In the same year, 2010, the theater participated in the international festival "Desired Shore" in Gorno-Altaisk.
The Issyk-Kul Musical and Drama Theater is a constant participant in all republican theater festivals. In 2008, our theater hosted the Republican Theater Festival dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the great contemporary writer Ch. T. Aitmatov.

The team includes people's artists: D. Sariyev, T. Satarov, A. Shatenov. Honored artists: Sh. Duyshonkulov, Sh. Supataeva, K. Akmatova, G. Nurgazieva, D. Nurgaziev, O. Kozhomkulova, and honored figure of arts K. R. B. Kulanbaev. There is also a folklore ensemble "AZEM" in the theater that constantly participates in all festivals and competitions both in the republic and abroad.
Currently, the team faces the challenging task of raising the material and technical base of the theater to a high level. The creative team is in constant search for new forms, styles, and productions.
