Here comes the month of March… March, the first month of spring, has many names, each more affectionate than the last: protalnik, kapelnik, vesnovey.

The name March comes from the ancient Romans in honor of the god of war Mars, who was once recognized as the protector of peaceful labor. In ancient times in Kyrgyzstan, it was called zhalgan kuran.

NOORUZ

Throughout the ages, this holiday has been celebrated by poets such as Firdausi, Saadi, Navoi, and Furkat. Omar Khayyam dedicated an entire poem to it. Abu Rayhan Biruni described the celebration of Nooruz in his book "Monuments of Past Generations": "On the day of the equinox, people go out into the streets, have fun, eat a dish made of millet flour, butter, and sugar. No one works on this day, and whoever plants a tree will bear wormy fruits. On this day, nature is exuberant, the seas rise, and the underground forces increase."

The day is celebrated when "the constellation of Taurus is at the center of the Universe", when winter departs, taking with it the cold and bad weather, the holiday instills in people faith and hope for the future, for the coming year to be good. The holiday of the equinox marked a turn towards warmth and light.

Ramis Ryskulov
Song of Nooruz

To the mountains, to the mountains, to the golden meadows,
Spring has driven its lambs,
Every day it counts
The newly sprouted horns.
With joyful crunch, the snows melt.
The ice melts, the streams ring.
To the mountains, to the mountains, to the young meadows
Herds of lively lambs rush.
Forget about the restless peace, the shifting sand,
The sandy stream flows
From the hot mountains,
Like a stream.
In the valleys, a bright pattern is woven
By the warm fingers of the rays.
The winter night has ended,
The wind rushes with all its might,
Filling the expanse with a sunny cry:
The free song of the mountains resounds!
Away with you, sad, dark thoughts!
Above the world soar, above the world reign
Transparent trills,
In the sky hang
Living flutes,
Living, singing dreams.
Today is the holiday of Spring!

WORLD WATER DAY

Not only is the number of people on earth increasing, but also the amount of water they consume, while the total reserves may become a serious brake on global development in this century.

Since 1900, the world population has doubled, while the amount of freshwater consumed has increased more than sixfold. If the water supply per capita per year is less than 1,700 cubic meters, then the region experiences "water stress" and frequent interruptions in water supply due to water shortages. In many such regions, the water supply is already less than 1,000 cubic meters per person per year, which creates serious problems for agricultural production and economic development. If current trends continue, 3.5 billion people, or 48% of the projected world population by 2025, will be subject to "water stress".

If we do not learn to manage water resources rationally, humanity and the planet may suffer irreparable damage. Even now, the life and well-being of millions of people directly depend on water.

MARCH 24

WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY

It is well known worldwide that tuberculosis is a global problem: about 1/3 of the world’s population (approximately 2 billion) is infected with tuberculosis bacteria; 2 million people die from tuberculosis each year, 8-10 million fall ill with it, and 16-20 million suffer from all forms of the disease; today, someone falls ill with tuberculosis every 4 seconds, and every 10 seconds someone dies from it; 80% of all cases involve people of the most productive age – 15-50 years, and 98% of all deaths from it occur in developing countries; tuberculosis affects all organs: lungs, bones, joints, kidneys, urinary tract, and other organs; tuberculosis bacteria die in direct UV rays within 2-3 minutes, in direct sunlight within 1.5 hours, and during boiling within 5-25 minutes.

"AJAL ORDUNA" — 75 years since its premiere

75 years ago, on March 26, 1938, the premiere of the musical drama "Ajal orduna" ("Not death, but life") took place on the stage of the Kyrgyz Musical Theater. The performance was created collaboratively by Russian and Kyrgyz artists – libretto by J. Turusbekov, composers V. A. Vlasov, A. Maldybaev, V. G. Fere, choreographer A. Lukin, artist A. Stoffer, directors A. Kuttubaev and V. Vasiliev, choirmaster K. Merkulov, conductor Tselikovsky. The first performers of the main roles were A. Botaliev, A. Maldybaev, A. Kuttubaeva. The staging of the drama, which became a significant event in the cultural life of the republic, marked the beginning of the history of the national musical theater.

The events of those years are vividly recalled by composer Vladimir Alexandrovich Vlasov: "Working with poet Yu. Turusbekov was not easy. He wrote a huge libretto, almost two operas long, and reacted painfully to large cuts. Despite these cuts, the performance turned out to be quite bulky, ending almost at midnight, but no one left before the end of the performance."

In "Ajal orduna", the action takes place in 1916 in Kyrgyzstan. The tsarist government issues an order for mobilization. In response, a popular uprising breaks out. There is a shortage of weapons, and the uprising is suppressed. The Kyrgyz land is stained with the blood of its sons. The people flee far over the mountains to China. But in exile, the Kyrgyz meet only sorrow and need. Only the October Revolution freed the suffering people. The Kyrgyz return to their Soviet land.

Almost all the adult population of Kyrgyzstan who watched the performance "Ajal orduna" experienced the terrible year of 1916 and the slave life in China. Even the younger generation of artists remembered life in exile well. This is why the actors' performances and the audience's perception in this play were completely unique.

... For a bag of flour, a girl named Zulaiika (A. Kuttubaeva) is sold in China; her farewell to her parents (The Weeping of Zulaiika) was listened to by everyone with the deepest emotion. The beautiful image of the wise elder Bektur – "the conscience of the people" – was created with great emotional strength and genuine simplicity by K. Eshimbekov. But the most powerful, tragic scene is the departure of the Kyrgyz from their native land, the farewell to their beloved lake. The choir and all the soloists, addressing Issyk-Kul, sing a farewell song. The large choir flawlessly sang the difficult musical episode, addressing the lake (magnificently depicted by the artist) while standing with their backs to the audience and the conductor. The audience's reaction was equally strong in the final scene: the blooming valley of Issyk-Kul, the meeting with the native land; the concluding song about Lenin was perceived as a symbol of victory achieved in a difficult struggle.

The music of "Ajal orduna" is more developed, complete, and cohesive than "Altyn kyzy". We were no longer afraid of complex arias, recitatives, multi-voiced choirs, and symphonic episodes.

"Ajal orduna" is already almost an opera performance, with very little conversational text. This is why we calmly took on the third performance – a full-fledged, large epic opera "Aychurek". "Ajal orduna" was shown on March 26, 1938. The reception was enthusiastic, and the performance became one of the most beloved in the Kyrgyz repertoire."
