At a meeting between Health Minister Kanbek Dosmambetov and U.S. Ambassador Leslie Viguerie, the parties confirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation in the healthcare sector. U.S. representatives proposed to develop a new memorandum that will define key objectives for the coming years. This information was provided by the press service of the ministry.
As part of the new memorandum, the American side plans to focus on three main areas: ensuring access to medical services and medications for people living with HIV, supporting the national tuberculosis control program, and strengthening sanitary and epidemiological safety. Kyrgyzstan, in turn, reported that the draft memorandum is currently undergoing interagency coordination. After assessing the legal, financial, and institutional aspects, the document will be sent to the USA through official channels.
Additionally, the meeting discussed practical initiatives, including a plan to build a medical town in Bishkek and the possibility of purchasing modern medical and laboratory equipment from leading American manufacturers. Kyrgyzstan also expressed interest in internships and further training for its specialists in the USA.
The ambassador reminded that cooperation in the healthcare sector between the two countries began in the mid-1990s and covers programs related to HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary-epidemiological safety.
Following the discussion, Minister Kanbek Dosmambetov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is aimed at constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation. All proposed initiatives will be considered in accordance with existing procedures and legislation, with a focus on the sustainability of the healthcare system.
The parties agreed to continue joint activities in the field of epidemiological safety, infrastructure modernization, commercial interaction, and medical personnel training.
