According to the latest report from the Global Firepower analytical center for 2026, the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan ranked 109th among 145 countries, which represents a decline of four positions compared to the previous year. The assessment was conducted based on more than 60 parameters, including the defense budget, personnel strength, level of technical equipment, and logistics.
In contrast to Kyrgyzstan, Central Asian countries are showing positive dynamics in strengthening their military power. Uzbekistan has become the leader in the region, rising five places to 53rd. Kazakhstan improved its position, taking 58th place, while Tajikistan is now in 100th place. Turkmenistan is positioned at 78th. As a result, Kyrgyzstan ranks last in the region in terms of military potential.
According to experts, Kyrgyzstan's defense budget is approximately $221.8 million. With 23,000 military personnel in the army and 300,000 people in the mobilization reserve, the state of equipment remains a key factor affecting the overall index. Analysts claim that the actual combat readiness of the country's armored and artillery assets is assessed at only 50 percent.
The global leaders in the Global Firepower ranking remain the USA, Russia, and China. Changes in the positions of Central Asian countries reflect their capabilities for modernizing armed forces and implementing new technologies. The decline in Kyrgyzstan's ranking against the backdrop of its neighbors' growth highlights the urgent need for reforms in the republic's defense sector.
