Fees for insurance and tinting for Kyrgyz drivers are being discussed
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Dastan Bekeshev raised the issue of additional fees charged to drivers from Kyrgyzstan when passing through the territory of Uzbekistan.
According to him, when Kyrgyz citizens travel from one part of the country to another through Uzbekistan, they are forced to purchase insurance and pay for car tinting services, while there are no similar requirements for Uzbek drivers from Kyrgyzstan.
In response, First Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev stated that this issue is already being discussed at the level of intergovernmental negotiations. He noted that the Kyrgyz side is actively negotiating with Uzbekistan to abolish these fees.
The deputy minister added that the Uzbek side is currently conducting internal procedures, and if the requirements are not lifted in the near future, Kyrgyzstan will be forced to introduce mirror measures — similar fees for cars with Uzbek license plates upon their entry into Kyrgyzstan.
