GDP is growing, but food prices are hitting the pocket

At a meeting of the budget and finance committee of parliament, deputy Dastan Bekeshev urged government structures to reconsider the timelines for increasing contributions for alternative service. He proposed introducing a one-year moratorium on new tariffs, noting that under current inflationary conditions, such a financial burden would become unbearable for citizens. Bekeshev also emphasized that the sharp rise in the cost of living creates tension in society, and the current moment is not suitable for implementing such reforms.

Presenting his arguments, the parliamentarian pointed to the increasing social inequality that could be exacerbated by the new bill. According to him, for wealthy citizens, the amount of 75,000 soms will not pose a serious obstacle, while for low-income families, this "purchase" of a military ticket could turn into a real disaster. The deputy called on his colleagues to seek a compromise, suggesting approving the concept in the first reading, but with the condition of postponing the law's implementation for at least a year to wait for the stabilization of the situation and the completion of the presidential elections.

Furthermore, Bekeshev pointed out the significant gap between official economic indicators and the real standard of living of the population. He noted that while officials report GDP growth, ordinary people are facing unprecedented increases in the prices of basic food products. Considering the Ministry of Defense's data that revenues from alternative service are already showing an increase (750 million soms in 2025 compared to 714 million the previous year), Bekeshev believes that current budget revenues are quite sufficient and calls for not exacerbating the situation during such a sensitive period.
