Kyrgyzstan is in dialogue with the EU regarding possible restrictions - Baisalov

Amid reports of potential restrictive measures from the European Union, Kyrgyzstan is maintaining an active dialogue with European authorities. This was stated by Edil Baisalov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, in an exclusive interview at the World Government Summit in Dubai, which was broadcast live on Nomad TV.

According to Baisalov, Kyrgyz diplomats in Brussels and other European capitals continue to maintain regular contact with partners. Bishkek plans to increase its efforts in this direction by organizing additional consultations and negotiations.

He expressed confusion regarding reports of potential restrictions, emphasizing the importance of supplies of components for the IT sector, including high-performance computers and aviation fuel. "We are perplexed, and we will deepen our negotiations, as well as seek clarifications, ready to provide our comments on this issue," Baisalov noted.

The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers emphasized that the Kyrgyz side is prepared to both request clarifications and share information with European partners. "I am confident that European authorities will have the wisdom and patience not to spoil relations with the Kyrgyz Republic and not to create the impression that they intend to restrict us or harm our national development and economic growth policies," he added.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the European Union is considering the possibility of imposing restrictive measures against Kyrgyzstan in the context of combating circumvention of sanctions against Russia. In particular, a ban on the export of machinery and certain radio equipment to the country is being discussed.

Since the beginning of 2022, more than 20 companies from Kyrgyzstan have been under sanctions from the US and UK. These restrictions have affected financial institutions, the oil and gas sector, as well as the supply of electronic and telecommunications equipment, IT infrastructure, and air transport services.
